About the Program
The New American Leadership Institute (NALI) is an annual six-session civics academy for emerging immigrant & refugee leaders to learn about the structure of local government, hone leadership skills, network with peers, and identify opportunities for civic participation in which they can act as ambassadors for their communities.
Objectives
- Strengthen leadership skills of immigrant and refugee participants
- Develop a network of immigrant and refugee leaders
- Prepare immigrants and refugees to navigate and engage local government and key city agencies
- Increase immigrant and refugee civic participation in municipal government, community associations, and boards
- Promote immigrant and refugee integration at a neighborhood level
- Empower immigrant leaders in Baltimore City to act as representatives on behalf of their respective communities
