2023 New American Leadership Institute (NALI)

The New American Leadership Institute (NALI) is an annual four-session civics academy for emerging immigrant and refugee leaders to learn about the structure of local government, hone leadership skills, network with peers, and identify opportunities for civic participation. These sessions prepare NALI participants to act as ambassadors for their communities!

Conversational English is required to apply. Please check back in August 2024 for more details.

Previous NALI Sessions

People stand in Baltimore City Hall Rotunda. They appear to be listening to a speaker..    People stand in a room with many chandeliers. They look at the chandeliers and listen to a tour guide.

Previous NALI Sessions have included:

  • training and honing the leadership skills of our emerging immigrant and refugee leaders
  • learning different leadership styles and how to effectively facilitate group decision making
  • introduction to local government and city structure
  • panels with elected officials and local neighborhood safety organizations
  • presentations from Mayor's Offices and Baltimore City agencies about their services and function
  • information about how federal funds are leveraged and how private/public partners collaborate to provide access to resources for immigrant communities

NALI has helped me to ... prepare for a better future that works for everyone else.
